Georgetown Commencement 2027: Four Days on Healy Lawn

Four days, and the registrar says so

Georgetown’s own Main Campus Multi-Year Academic Calendar carries two lines for spring 2027: Senior Convocation on Thursday 20 May, and Commencement Weekend running 20 to 23 May, Thursday to Sunday.

Both weekdays were cross-checked against the calendar. The dates come from the registrar rather than from a pattern projected off last year, which matters here because Georgetown’s weekend moves with the academic calendar and the 2026 equivalent was 14 to 17 May.

Many ceremonies, not one

Georgetown does not hold a single all-university Commencement.

Each school runs its own, the undergraduate college, the graduate school, medicine, law and the rest, spread across the four days. Nearly all of them take place on Healy Lawn, just inside the front gate on 37th and O. Severe weather moves proceedings to McDonough Arena on the Hilltop campus.

That structure is the whole logistical story of this weekend. There is no single hour that every family is trying to attend, which spreads demand across four days instead of concentrating it into one. It also means two families with graduates at the same university can need completely different nights.

The piece that decides your booking

Georgetown had not published the 2027 day-by-day breakdown when we checked. That gap sits exactly where the booking decision does.

In the 2026 cycle the undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences ceremony was held on the Saturday, with Graduate School, Medicine and Law ceremonies on the Sunday. A pattern that has held recently is useful for guessing, and it is not something to reserve four nights on. The school itself is the authority, and it is a short email.

Until then the defensible position is to hold the span rather than a night: the registrar has fixed 20 to 23 May, and the booking links on this page are set across it.

Getting there, and the one thing that changes

Healy Lawn is inside the front gate, which makes the walk short and the parking hard. Georgetown sits in a low-rise residential neighbourhood without a Metro station of its own, so arrival is a taxi, a rideshare, a bus or a walk from Foggy Bottom, and every family on the Hilltop is solving that problem in the same hour.

The severe-weather move to McDonough Arena is the variable worth planning around. It is on campus, so it does not change which side of the city you should sleep on, but it does change where you are walking to and how much shelter there is while you wait.

What we could not establish

The 2027 per-school ceremony schedule, including which day and what time each school takes, and any published ticket or guest limit for those ceremonies.

We also could not establish start times for anything, including Senior Convocation itself. The registrar’s calendar carries dates rather than a running order, and Georgetown’s commencement site had not posted the 2027 detail at the time of this check. Nothing here has been carried forward from the 2026 timings to fill that gap.
