Where to Stay for Georgetown University Graduation Weekend

One hotel on campus, and it is brand new

Georgetown’s own hotel in the Leavey Center closed for a full renovation and reopened as the Hoya Hotel, 146 rooms across five stories, managed by Crestline Hotels and Resorts. Its own site confirmed reservations opening on 19 August 2026.

That makes 2027 its first graduation weekend under the new name, which cuts both ways. There is a genuinely new on-campus option where recently there was none. There is also no commencement-specific booking policy, no published minimum stay and no track record of how fast it fills, because it has not yet had a graduation to fill for.

The window that closes

Separately, Georgetown rents residence hall rooms to visiting families through its own Commencement Housing programme, and this one runs on a clock.

For the 2026 cycle the reservation window opened at noon ET on Wednesday 4 March and closed at noon ET on Friday 24 April, with rooms assigned first come, first served. Rates ran $140 to $280 per room inclusive of taxes for two to four night packages. The programme states plainly that it is “unable to offer single-night stays or accommodate early arrivals or late departures”.

The 2027 dates were not published when we checked. What the 2026 cycle tells you is the shape: this is not something you can decide about in May. If it matters to you, it is a date to diarise in late winter, and the equivalent 2027 window is the single most useful thing Georgetown could publish next.

Four days, not one

The registrar publishes Commencement Weekend as 20 to 23 May 2027, Thursday to Sunday, with Senior Convocation on the Thursday.

Georgetown does not hold one all-university ceremony. Each school runs its own, spread across those four days, nearly all of them on Healy Lawn just inside the front gate. So the question “when is graduation” has a different answer for a law graduate and an undergraduate, and only one of those answers decides which nights you need.

The 2027 day-by-day breakdown was not published when we checked. In the 2026 cycle the undergraduate College ceremony fell on the Saturday with Graduate School, Medicine and Law on the Sunday, which is a pattern rather than a promise. Ask the school directly before you fix the booking.

A small neighbourhood inside a big hotel market

Washington has plenty of hotels. Georgetown does not.

The neighbourhood is a low-rise historic district that was never built up with hotel towers, which is the structural reason the university runs a guest-housing programme at all. Arlington, about 12 minutes across the Potomac, returned roughly 1,705 properties on a live check, and Bethesda, about 14 minutes out, roughly 3,460. Both sit outside DC proper, and that independence is the point: their inventory does not move with Georgetown’s calendar.

Those checks ran in July 2026 against a representative 21 to 23 May 2027 weekend, and the tool returned prices in a non-US currency by IP geolocation, so inventory depth and hotel tier are what we can stand behind rather than a converted dollar figure.

What we could not establish

The 2027 Commencement Housing window, which is the one date a family can act on months ahead, and the 2027 per-school ceremony schedule. Both sit with Georgetown.

No commencement-specific minimum stay, deposit or cancellation policy at the Hoya Hotel, because the property has not published one for a graduation weekend it has not yet worked. No 2027 rate for any Georgetown-area property. No dollar comparison for Arlington or Bethesda.
