Three days, 26 to 28 May 2027

MIT’s 2027 Commencement ceremonies run 26 to 28 May. MIT states it plainly: “The Commencement 2027 ceremonies are scheduled for May 26-28.” The weekdays check out: 26 May is a Wednesday and 28 May a Friday.

That makes MIT one of the few universities on this site already publishing 2027 dates, and it is worth taking the range seriously. This is a three-day round, not a single ceremony.

Which day is yours is the open question

MIT runs several ceremonies across those three days and has not published which falls when.

It is explicit about why: information “will continue to populate this site as details for the 2027 festivities are confirmed”. That is a genuine not-yet rather than a gap, and it means this cluster rewards re-checking as the date approaches.

Until then the honest position is that the round is 26 to 28 May and the specific day is not yet assignable. If you can hold refundable nights across the range, do.

Harvard graduates inside MIT’s window

This is the fact that decides Cambridge lodging, and neither university’s own page will tell you.

Harvard’s Commencement is Thursday 27 May 2027, the middle day of MIT’s three.

Harvard Square and Kendall Square are two miles apart and four stops on the Red Line. That week they are not separate markets: Cambridge is absorbing MIT families and Harvard families at once, in a city with a small hotel stock relative to either institution’s draw.

Killian Court, probably, but not confirmed

MIT’s main ceremony has traditionally been held in Killian Court, the open lawn facing the Charles between the Great Dome and Memorial Drive. It is open-air.

MIT has not confirmed the 2027 venue, so this page does not assert it. The tradition is worth knowing about for a different reason: an outdoor ceremony in late May means a weather plan matters, and MIT has published none for 2027.

Boston University is a separate wave

BU graduates on Sunday 16 May 2027, eleven days earlier, across the river in Boston.

Boston has two graduation waves rather than one, and they do not overlap. A family here for MIT is not bidding against BU families.

What we checked

MIT’s commencement site was read on 19 August 2026 and carries the 26 to 28 May 2027 range and the statement about details still to come. Harvard’s 27 May date comes from Harvard’s Commencement Office schedule, read the same day. Weekdays were verified independently.

Not published for 2027, and each a real absence: which ceremony falls on which day, start times, the venue, a weather plan, and any ticket or guest limit.
