A hundredth birthday, and a hotel that fills in minutes

NC A&T has published its 2026 homecoming as 25 October to 1 November, in its own words “Oct. 25 - Nov. 1 in Aggieland - Greensboro, N.C.”, with the homecoming game against Elon University on Saturday 31 October.

The reason to act on that earlier than usual is the year itself. NC A&T dates the tradition to 1926 and describes 2026 as “a historic milestone: homecoming’s centennial anniversary year”. The event already carries a name most universities would not dare give themselves, the Greatest Homecoming on Earth, and a projection of more than 200,000 attendees.

Set that against what a named university official has said about rooms. Vice Chancellor Tamara Michel Josserand told local media that partner properties “typically sell out quickly”, and that the host hotel, the Sheraton Greensboro at Four Seasons, “sometimes reaches capacity within minutes.”

Minutes is not a figure of speech about a busy weekend. It is a university telling you that the room is gone before most people know to look for it, in an ordinary year. This is not an ordinary year.

Eight days published, two nights that matter

The week runs eight days and almost nobody books eight nights.

The shape of the trip is the game. Saturday 31 October is the fixed point, which makes Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October the nights the market wants, and the booking links on this page are set to those rather than spread across the whole run. If your reason for coming is a specific reunion event earlier in the week, the published schedule is what decides whether you need the Thursday as well.

One genuine advantage here: NC A&T publishes the week a year ahead. Most homecoming pages on this site cannot say that. It removes the usual excuse for waiting, and against a host hotel that fills in minutes, waiting is the only real mistake available.

Three cities, not one city with overflow

The Piedmont Triad does unusual work during GHOE, and it is worth understanding why.

High Point is about 25 minutes out and Winston-Salem about 35. Neither is a commuter town whose rooms empty when Greensboro fills. Each is a real city with its own hotel base serving its own business and event traffic, and three of them inside a 35-minute radius is genuine depth.

The qualification matters as much as the depth, and it is the same one our commencement page makes: the Triad is one connected metropolitan area rather than three separate markets. An NC A&T event large enough to fill Greensboro reaches outward into High Point and Winston-Salem rather than leaving them untouched. The depth is real. The independence is partial.

For a centennial GHOE that is the argument for booking Greensboro early rather than assuming the ring will catch you. The ring is there, and on that weekend it is serving the same crowd.

The kickoff time for the 31 October game. NC A&T gives the opponent and the day; the hour is set later and nothing here guesses at it.

The full centennial schedule of events across the eight days, and which of them are open to visiting families rather than to registered alumni. NC A&T is running a hundred-day countdown and a centennial store alongside the weekend, and detail is still being added.

No Greensboro property was found publishing a GHOE room block, a minimum-stay requirement or a cancellation deadline, so there is no booking deadline on this page beyond the university’s own account of how fast the host hotel goes.

The ring-town drive times were measured for this cluster’s commencement research in May. Distance does not change with the season; the availability counts behind them were not gathered for an October Saturday and should not be read as a forecast for one.
