Ohio University's next ceremony is Fall Commencement at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday 12 December 2026 at the Convocation Center, one combined ceremony, no tickets and no limit on guests. Spring 2027 is where the planning gets harder, because Athens holds two graduation weekends a week apart. The main round runs Friday 30 April to Sunday 2 May across four sessions, and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine graduates separately at 10 a.m. on Saturday 8 May. OU publishes which half of the day each spring session falls in and which colleges are in it, but no clock time and no venue for any of the four. Do not assume the Convocation Center for spring: it is confirmed for December and for the medical ceremony, and OU has named no building for the main spring round.

Two o’clock on a Saturday, no tickets, no limit on guests
Fall Commencement is 2:00 p.m. on Saturday 12 December 2026, at the Convocation Center on Richland Ave. One combined ceremony, indoors, and OU’s own page settles the question families usually have to chase: “There is no limit for guests. The event is not ticketed.”
The hour matters more than it looks. A 2 p.m. Saturday start is reachable on a same-morning drive from Columbus, Cincinnati, Charleston or Parkersburg. A 9 a.m. one is not. In a town this size that is the difference between booking a room and not needing one, and it is why December is the easy round here.
Parking is the one December detail OU has not filled in. Its page still says “Information coming soon!” Livestream is confirmed and will be embedded on the commencement front page once the ceremony begins.
Spring 2027 is four sessions across three days

Read that table for your graduate’s college first and the day second. Two families with students in the same year can need opposite ends of the weekend: an engineering family needs Sunday morning, a nursing family needs Friday, and they will not overlap.
The Sunday session is the newest part of the shape. OU announced it as an addition for this round, so anyone planning from memory of an older year is planning around a weekend that ended a day earlier than this one does.
What OU has not published is the hour and the building. The morning-or-afternoon split is real and citable. A clock time is not, and neither is a venue for any of the four. The university says the rest is “announced closer to spring”.
Do not assume the Convocation Center in May
This is the trap on this cluster, and it is a subtle one because the building is not a wild guess.
The Convocation Center is confirmed for December. It is confirmed for the Heritage College ceremony in May. It is the only large indoor venue OU routinely uses. And it appears nowhere on the university’s published spring 2027 schedule.
Three ceremonies in one venue does not make a fourth one a fact. If your travel depends on where you are sitting rather than what day, that detail does not exist yet, and the honest answer is to book on the day and confirm the building later.
Athens holds two graduation weekends this spring
The Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine graduates separately, and its weekend is fully published while the main round’s is not:

Tickets here work the same way as December: “There is no limit on the amount of guests and the event is not ticketed.” The ceremony covers the Athens campus; the Dublin and Cleveland sites are not part of it.
A medical family therefore books a genuinely different weekend from an undergraduate family, and needs three nights rather than two if they are coming for the Thursday. It also means OU’s hotel blackout clause, which names graduation ceremony weekends in the plural, catches two separate stretches of early May rather than one.
December measures flat, and the count is the point

The ceremony window is level with its controls, so December is not a scramble. What the table really shows is the size of the market: Athens runs about two dozen bookable properties in any week of the year. A percentage computed on numbers that small is noise, and two properties either way is not a signal.
That is the honest reading. December is not tight, and Athens is small. Both things are true, and the second one is why the spring rounds are worth booking early even though we have not measured them.
What we checked, and what we could not
The December date, time, venue, ticket policy and livestream all come from Ohio University’s own commencement page, read on 17 August 2026, with 12 December 2026 confirmed as a Saturday. The four spring sessions, their morning and afternoon designations and their college assignments come from OU’s future-ceremonies page; 30 April 2027 is a Friday, 1 May a Saturday, 2 May a Sunday. The Heritage College schedule comes from that college’s own commencement page, with 6 May a Thursday and 8 May a Saturday.
One source that most clusters on this site rely on is useless here: OU’s registrar publishes no ceremony dates at all, for any year. Student Affairs is the publisher on this campus.

OU has not said. No venue is named for any of the four spring 2027 sessions on the university's own future-ceremonies page. The Convocation Center hosts the December round and the Heritage College round, so it is the obvious guess, but a guess is not a published fact and we are not printing one.
Why is there a second graduation weekend in May?
The Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine graduates on its own schedule, at 10 a.m. on Saturday 8 May 2027 at the Convocation Center, doors at 8:30. Its weekend starts on Thursday 6 May with a golf scramble, runs a rehearsal, reception and awards ceremony on the Friday, and closes with a military commissioning ceremony on the Saturday afternoon. A week separates it from the main round, so the two do not compete for the same nights.
Will Athens be full for the December ceremony?
Not on the evidence, but read the absolute number rather than the percentage. Five matched two-night searches on 16 August 2026 returned 22, 22, 24, 23 and 23 bookable properties, with the 11 to 13 December window the 24. Level with its controls. The thing worth noticing is that the whole town runs to roughly two dozen properties in any week.
Which OU page should we watch for updates?
Student Affairs, not the registrar. OU's academic calendar carries no ceremony dates at all, for any year, which is unusual: on most universities the registrar is the one source that publishes years ahead. Here it publishes nothing.
