Your college picks your hour, and it is already published

Purdue does not run one ceremony. It runs three on the day, and your graduate’s college decides which.

That table is the useful part of this page, because the gap between the first and last division is nine and a half hours. A 9:30 a.m. ceremony and a 7:00 p.m. one are different trips: one needs you in West Lafayette the night before with time to park, the other can be reached on the day but puts you on the road late or into a second night.

One footnote from Purdue worth catching: Agricultural and Biological Engineering students walk with Agriculture in Division I, not with Engineering in Division III. If that is your graduate, your day starts at 9:30 rather than ending at seven.

Not Elliott Hall, and this is the thing to get right

Almost every older guide to Purdue commencement names Elliott Hall of Music. For this ceremony, that is the wrong building.

Elliott is closed from 9 June 2026 to 16 January 2027 for critical renovations. The December ceremony has moved to Mackey Arena, 900 John R Wooden Drive, on the west side of campus.

The closure has a second consequence that changes the size of the event rather than its location. Purdue states plainly that it “will not host a Summer 2026 Commencement Ceremony”, and that summer and winter ceremonies “will be combined and held in December at Mackey Arena.” Summer graduates were invited to come back and walk on the 20th; the deadline to request that has now passed.

So this is two graduating classes in one day, in a substitute venue, in a university whose class size has topped 10,000 for two years running. Everything on the lodging side of this cluster follows from that.

Spring 2027 is dated, and its venue is the open question

Purdue’s commencement office has not published spring 2027. Its registrar has: the 2026-27 academic calendar, published 9 February 2026, carries “May 14-16 Spring commencement” under its 2027 heading, alongside spring term ending 8 May and finals running 3 to 8 May. The same calendar restores a summer ceremony on 7 August 2027, after the 2026 skip.

We checked the weekdays: 14 May 2027 is a Friday and 16 May a Sunday, so it is a Friday-to-Sunday round in the same shape as 2026’s nine divisions.

What is not published is the venue. Elliott reopens on 16 January 2027, well before May, so a return from Mackey is the obvious expectation. It is still an expectation. Purdue has not stated it, this record does not assert it, and a family booking for May should confirm the building when the division schedule appears.

The registrar also attaches its own caveat to the whole calendar: dates are subject to change.

What we could not settle

The December date carries one small inconsistency we would rather show than smooth over. Purdue’s commencement office publishes Sunday 20 December with a full division schedule. The registrar’s calendar shows “Dec. 19-20 Winter commencement”, a two-day entry. We have carried the 20th, because that is the date with an actual schedule attached, and the booking window this page passes to the map opens on the 19th regardless, so the difference does not change what you book.

Unpublished, and therefore absent here rather than estimated: doors-open times for any of the three divisions, how long a ceremony runs, ticket or guest limits, parking arrangements at Mackey, the spring 2027 venue, and the spring 2027 division schedule.
