Spring Commencement 2027 runs Thursday 6 May to Monday 10 May at the Watsco Center, ten ceremonies in all, at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The schedule skips Sunday 9 May and resumes on the Monday. So there is no such thing as "Miami graduation weekend": there is your school's slot, and everything else is somebody else's ceremony. Engineering, Rosenstiel and Nursing open on the Thursday morning, Business follows that afternoon, Arts and Sciences takes Friday afternoon, Law and Medicine take the Saturday, and graduate ceremonies close on the Monday. Miami's own page calls all of it tentative and subject to change.

There is no Miami graduation weekend

Most pages on this site are built around a weekend. This one is not, and the difference changes everything about how you book.

The University of Miami holds ten ceremonies across four days, Thursday 6 May to Monday 10 May 2027, every one of them at the Watsco Center. Slots are at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The schedule skips Sunday 9 May and picks up again on the Monday.

Your ceremony is one of those ten. The other nine are somebody else’s, and the families attending them are not competing with you for the same night.

The schedule, in the order it runs

Worth setting out plainly, because it is the thing most families come here for.

  • Thursday 6 May, 10:00 a.m. College of Engineering, Rosenstiel School and School of Nursing
  • Thursday 6 May, 4:00 p.m. Herbert Business School
  • Friday 7 May, 10:00 a.m. School of Architecture, Communication, Education and the Frost School of Music
  • Friday 7 May, 4:00 p.m. College of Arts and Sciences
  • Saturday 8 May, 10:00 a.m. School of Law
  • Saturday 8 May, 4:00 p.m. Miller School of Medicine
  • Monday 10 May, 10:00 a.m. Graduate degree ceremonies

Miami’s own commencement page states that dates, times and location are tentative and subject to change, and we are carrying that caveat rather than hiding it. Confirm your slot before booking anything non-refundable.

One venue for all of it

The Watsco Center hosts every ceremony, at 1245 Dauer Dr in Coral Gables.

This is less common than it sounds. Campuses running ten ceremonies usually spread them across arenas, quadrangles and school-specific halls, which is how families end up at the wrong building. Miami removes that failure mode entirely: whatever your school, whatever the day, it is the same address.

It also means the parking and approach problem is the same one every time, and that local knowledge about the arena carries across days.

Morning or afternoon changes the trip

The 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. split is the detail that decides your nights.

A 10 a.m. ceremony needs you in place the night before. That is one night for most families, the night preceding, and it is why the near-campus rooms fill across the whole four-day stretch rather than on one date.

A 4 p.m. ceremony is far more forgiving. It is reachable from a same-day arrival for anyone flying into Miami in the morning, and it makes the further lodging options, including Miami Beach at 29 minutes, entirely practical.

If your slot is an afternoon one and you have been assuming a two-night trip, check whether you actually need it.

What we checked, and what we could not

Every date, time, school assignment and the Watsco Center venue comes from the University of Miami’s own Spring Commencement schedule. The weekdays were cross-checked against the calendar: 6 May 2027 is a Thursday, 7 May a Friday, 8 May a Saturday and 10 May a Monday, with the 9th, a Sunday, unscheduled.

The ticket position is now established, and it is a cap. Miami publishes it as standing policy:

  • Tickets are required for all guests. Graduates do not need one but must present their Cane Card.
  • Each graduate can reserve a maximum of SIX guest tickets. Children aged two and under do not need their own ticket.
  • Tickets are selected when the graduate applies for graduation, issued to a Miami Hurricanes ticket account, and are mobile tickets that must be downloaded before the ceremony. They can be transferred to guests once released.

Six is a real constraint on a large family, and it is the number to settle before anyone books a flight. Miami also states that each ceremony lasts approximately two to three hours and that all ceremonies are at the Watsco Center on the Coral Gables campus.

The dates themselves were cross-checked this audit against Miami’s own Spring 2027 academic calendar, which prints undergraduate ceremonies on 6 and 7 May and graduate ceremonies on Monday 10 May. All seven stored ceremonies survived that check unchanged.

Still unestablished: parking arrangements at the Watsco Center, livestream details, and the reason the Sunday is skipped. Miami’s own tentative-and-subject-to-change note applies, so re-check close to the date.

Frequently asked questions

Where are all the ceremonies held?

Every one of them at the Watsco Center, 1245 Dauer Dr, Coral Gables. That is unusual: most multi-ceremony campuses split across venues, and Miami does not.

What time do ceremonies start?

Either 10:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. The Monday closing ceremony is a 10 a.m. one. Miami's own page notes that times are tentative.

Which day is my school on?

Engineering, Rosenstiel and Nursing on Thursday 6 May morning, Business that afternoon. Architecture, Communication, Education and the Frost School of Music on Friday morning, Arts and Sciences that afternoon. Law on Saturday morning, the Miller School of Medicine that afternoon. Graduate degree ceremonies on Monday 10 May.

Why is there no ceremony on Sunday 9 May?

Miami's published schedule simply skips it and resumes on the Monday. We have not found a stated reason and are not going to invent one.

How many nights do I actually need?

For most families, one or two. A single 10 a.m. slot needs the night before. This is the rare cluster where the answer is not "block out the whole weekend."
