The hotel to want is attached to the venue. The Hilton Garden Inn Indiana at IUP, 128 rooms, sits on Pratt Drive beside the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex where IUP held its May 2026 ceremonies, a walk rather than a drive. A mile south on Wayne Avenue the Ramada has 148 rooms, the largest in town, with a Quality Inn beside it; all three are on IUP's own area hotels list. IUP honoured 1,452 graduates in May 2026 across three ceremonies on one Saturday, and its 2027 calendar gives Saturday 8 May 2027 as one line for every degree level, with the ceremony split, times and venue still to come. December's round is Saturday 12 December 2026. Book the Hilton Garden Inn the day you know your date and hold the Friday and Saturday nights; Johnstown and Greensburg, 46 and 51 minutes, are the overflow.

The hotel is part of the venue
IUP held its May 2026 ceremonies in the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, and the complex has a hotel attached. The Hilton Garden Inn Indiana at IUP, 714 Pratt Drive, 128 rooms per Hilton’s own events page, is a walk from the arena doors. It is on IUP’s own area hotels list.
That is the one to book, and the arithmetic says why it goes first: 1,452 graduates honoured in May 2026, three ceremonies in one day, and 128 rooms beside the building.
Wayne Avenue, a mile south
Ramada by Wyndham Indiana, 1395 Wayne Avenue. About a mile and three minutes from the complex. 148 rooms per the Northstar directory, the largest in town.
Quality Inn and Suites, 1545 Wayne Avenue, beside it. Two miles and four minutes. A room count was not confirmed in an English-language directory, so none is stated.
Both are on IUP’s list. No matched-window availability series has been run for Indiana, so this page publishes no count of what remains; the named inventory is under 300 rooms plus the Quality Inn’s.
Two nights, until the split is published
IUP’s 2026-27 calendar gives Spring 2027 as one line: “Commencement - Associate’s, Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Degrees | Saturday, May 8, 2027.” Every degree level, one Saturday.
May 2026 shows what that one line hides: three ceremonies at 8:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., split by college. An 8:30 a.m. sitting makes the Friday night essential; a 5 p.m. one makes the Saturday night the sensible one. The 2027 split is not published, so hold both nights refundably and drop one when it is.
December 2026 is Saturday 12 December, on the same calendar, with no schedule or venue yet.
South and west, three quarters of an hour
Johnstown, 46 minutes south on US 422 and US 219, a distinct hotel market with chain properties. Greensburg, 51 minutes southwest, with hundreds of rooms in the Northstar directory. Monroeville, 65 minutes west on US 22, on Pittsburgh’s eastern edge with national brands in depth. Altoona, 74 minutes east, the far edge.
Drive times are off-peak road routes to the Kovalchick Complex computed on 14 September 2026, not measured journeys.
Not claimed here
No commencement-specific hotel policy, because none of the three publishes one. No 2027 venue; the Kovalchick Complex hosted May 2026 and appears here as history. No availability count, because none was measured. The six-ticket rule is 2026’s.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a hotel at the venue?
Yes. The Hilton Garden Inn Indiana at IUP, 714 Pratt Drive, stands beside the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, with 128 rooms per Hilton's own events page. It is on IUP's area hotels list.
What else is in Indiana?
The Ramada by Wyndham at 1395 Wayne Avenue, 148 rooms per the Northstar directory, about a mile and three minutes south of the complex, and the Quality Inn and Suites at 1545 Wayne Avenue beside it, room count not confirmed. Both on IUP's list.
Will the Hilton Garden Inn sell out?
No matched-window availability series has been run for Indiana, so this page publishes no count. 128 rooms beside a venue that held three ceremonies for 1,452 graduates in one day is the structure. It is the first hotel to go.
Which nights?
Both, until IUP publishes the 2027 ceremony split. May 2026 ran ceremonies at 8:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. by college; an 8:30 a.m. sitting needs the Friday night and a 5 p.m. one the Saturday. December's schedule is not published either.
Where is the overflow?
Johnstown, 46 minutes south, and Greensburg, 51 minutes southwest, each a distinct hotel market with chains. Monroeville, on Pittsburgh's eastern edge, is just over an hour with national brands in depth. Altoona is 74 minutes.
Does IUP publish a hotel list?
Yes, an "Indiana Area Hotels" page under admissions, naming the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Ramada and others. A visitor resource, not a commencement block.
How many guest tickets?
Six per graduate in 2026, tickets required for all guests, per IUP's commencement site. The 2027 rule is not yet posted.
