SUNY New Paltz's Spring 2027 academic calendar lists "May 21 Graduate Commencement Ceremony, SUNY New Paltz, 6 pm-7:30 pm", "May 22 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences), SUNY New Paltz, 10 am" and "May 23 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony (Schools of Business, Education, Fine & Performing Arts, Science & Engineering), SUNY New Paltz, 10 a.m." 21 May 2027 is a Friday, 22 May a Saturday and 23 May a Sunday. The calendar names no venue; the commencement page, still describing 2026 at this check, had all three on the Old Main Quad, the undergraduate days "Rain or Shine", with the graduate ceremony "Open seating - no tickets required" for up to seven guests and the undergraduate ceremonies at "Up to seven (7) guest tickets" plus lawn chairs outside the reserved area. Residence halls close at 10 am on the Friday but graduating students may stay until after their ceremony. No December ceremony: December graduates walk the following May. Read on 20 September 2026.

Three ceremonies, three days, each with a time

Most universities publish a date for the following spring and nothing more. SUNY New Paltz’s Spring 2027 academic calendar publishes the hour:

Friday 21 May: “Graduate Commencement Ceremony, SUNY New Paltz, 6 pm-7:30 pm.”

Saturday 22 May: “Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences), SUNY New Paltz, 10 am.”

Sunday 23 May: “Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony (Schools of Business, Education, Fine & Performing Arts, Science & Engineering), SUNY New Paltz, 10 a.m.”

21 May 2027 is a Friday, 22 May a Saturday, 23 May a Sunday. The same calendar notes that residence halls close at 10 am on the Friday and that graduating students may stay until after their own ceremony.

The quad, by pattern

The calendar gives no venue beyond the campus. The commencement page still described 2026 when read on 20 September 2026: “Graduate: Friday, May 15, 2026 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Old Main Quad”, then the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on “Saturday, May 16, 2026 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Old Main Quad (Rain or Shine)”, and the other schools on “Sunday, May 17, 2026 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Old Main Quad (Rain or Shine)”. A notice on the page recorded that the graduate ceremony had moved to the quad “rather than at the Athletic & Wellness Center as originally planned.” This page carries the Old Main Quad as the pattern and the February review checks the 2027 page.

Seven tickets for the seats, a lawn for the rest

The undergraduate rule: “Up to seven (7) guest tickets may be reserved by qualifying graduates to their ceremony online.” Tickets not downloaded can be collected on the day at the Will Call table by College Hall. Then the part that changes the arithmetic for hotels: “Additional guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets and sit outside the reserved seating area. Children ages 2+ require a ticket for entry into the reserved seating area.”

The graduate ceremony is simpler: “Open seating - no tickets required. Students may invite up to seven guests to this event.”

Shuttles and the livestream

“Shuttle service will be provided between the Athletic & Wellness Center, nearby parking lots and the Lecture Center.” Each ceremony has a livestream link on the commencement page. A maps, directions and parking page exists for the current year; this page does not restate lot names it did not read.

No December ceremony

The calendar’s rule is that December graduates walk the following May. The 2027 calendar states it for December 2027 applicants, “Students participate in May 2028 ceremony”, and the same rule places December 2026 graduates in the May 2027 ceremonies above.

Which night, by school

Friday for a Liberal Arts and Sciences graduate, Saturday for Business, Education, Fine and Performing Arts or Science and Engineering, and Friday arriving by late afternoon for a master’s graduate. New Paltz has three hotels and about 190 rooms at the Thruway exit; the where to stay page has them and the river towns that will take the overflow.

Frequently asked questions

When is SUNY New Paltz's 2027 commencement?

Three ceremonies: Friday 21 May 2027 at 6 pm (graduate), Saturday 22 May at 10 am (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences) and Sunday 23 May at 10 am (Schools of Business, Education, Fine and Performing Arts, Science and Engineering), per the Spring 2027 academic calendar read on 20 September 2026. All three weekdays check out.

Where are the ceremonies?

The 2027 calendar says only "SUNY New Paltz". In 2026 all three were on the Old Main Quad, outdoors, with the undergraduate days marked "Rain or Shine"; the graduate ceremony was moved to the quad from the Athletic & Wellness Center that year. Expect the quad, and check the commencement page when it turns over to 2027.

Do we need tickets?

Graduate ceremony: "Open seating - no tickets required. Students may invite up to seven guests to this event." Undergraduate ceremonies: "Up to seven (7) guest tickets may be reserved by qualifying graduates to their ceremony online," collected as downloads or at Will Call by College Hall on the day; "Additional guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets and sit outside the reserved seating area." Per the commencement page describing 2026.

Do children need tickets?

For the reserved seating area, yes from age two: "Children ages 2+ require a ticket for entry into the reserved seating area." Outside it, on the lawn, no.

How do we get around campus?

"Shuttle service will be provided between the Athletic & Wellness Center, nearby parking lots and the Lecture Center," per the 2026 page. The commencement site has a maps, directions and parking page for the current year.

Is it livestreamed?

Yes; the commencement page carries a "Watch Livestream" link for each ceremony.

Is there a December ceremony?

No. The calendar sends December graduates to the following May's ceremonies ("Students participate in May 2028 ceremony" for December 2027 applicants), so December 2026 graduates walk in May 2027.

How many nights?

Friday for a Saturday graduate, Saturday for a Sunday graduate, Friday arriving early for the 6 pm graduate ceremony. The village has three hotels at the Thruway exit; the where-to-stay page has them and the river towns.
