Binghamton has published its full 2027 schedule, and it is NINE ceremonies across three days, Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 May. Which day matters entirely to you depends on your graduate's school. Pharmacy and the Doctoral Hooding go Thursday morning at the ANDERSON CENTER, not the Events Center. Decker is Thursday afternoon. Watson, CCPA and the School of Management take Friday. All three Harpur College ceremonies fall on Saturday. Each ceremony runs about two hours and doors open 45 minutes before. The booking trap is tickets: Binghamton does not post ticket allotments until March 2027 and answers extra-ticket requests only by the end of April, so you will be booking rooms months before you know how many people can actually come.

The schedule is out, and it changes the booking

The most useful thing this page could previously tell you was that Binghamton had not yet published which school goes on which day. It has now, and the answer is more granular than most families expect.

Nine ceremonies. Three days. Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 May 2027.

Day Time Venue Who
Thu 13 May 9:00 a.m. Anderson Center Osterhout Theater School of Pharmacy, masters and PharmD
Thu 13 May 12:30 p.m. Anderson Center Osterhout Theater Doctoral Hooding, PhD and EdD
Thu 13 May 4:30 p.m. Events Center Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Fri 14 May 8:30 a.m. Events Center Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science
Fri 14 May 1:00 p.m. Events Center College of Community and Public Affairs
Fri 14 May 4:30 p.m. Events Center School of Management
Sat 15 May 8:30 a.m. Events Center Harpur College, Ceremony 1
Sat 15 May 12:30 p.m. Events Center Harpur College, Ceremony 2
Sat 15 May 4:30 p.m. Events Center Harpur College, Ceremony 3

Each ceremony runs about two hours, and doors open 45 minutes before, a time Binghamton marks as subject to change.

Two things are easy to get wrong here. The first two Thursday ceremonies are at the Anderson Center, not the Events Center, so “everything is at the Events Center” does not hold. And Harpur College, the largest college, is split across three separate Saturday ceremonies, so a Harpur graduate has to establish which numbered ceremony they are in, not merely which day.

Three days is not one booking window

This is the part that costs money if you get it wrong.

A three-day span reads like a long weekend you can cover with one booking. It is not. It is three different two-night trips, and yours is decided by your graduate’s school.

A Pharmacy family, for a 9 a.m. Thursday ceremony with doors at 8:15, needs the Wednesday night. A Watson or Management family, for Friday, needs Thursday. A Harpur family with an 8:30 a.m. Saturday ceremony needs Friday.

Get that wrong by one night and the correction is expensive here, because there is nowhere nearby to correct it to. The nearest fallback markets are Ithaca at 65 minutes and Scranton at 75, with nothing in between.

The 8:30 a.m. ceremonies deserve their own warning. Doors at 7:45 a.m. is not a drive from Ithaca or Scranton in any reasonable sense. If your graduate is in Watson or Harpur Ceremony 1, the night before is not optional.

The ticket timetable runs behind the hotel timetable

Binghamton’s ticketing is the most awkward on this site, and not because it is strict. It is because of when it happens.

Binghamton does not have a fixed allowance. Its own wording: ticket quantity “completely depends on the number of graduates who sign up for that ceremony and space available in the venue.” That is a reasonable way to run a venue and an impossible way to plan a trip, because of the dates attached to it:

  • Ticket allotment posted: March 2027.
  • Graduates claim tickets: March 2027.
  • Extra-ticket requests answered: by the end of April 2027.
  • Ceremonies: 13 to 15 May 2027.

So the earliest you can know how many people may attend is about two months out, and if you need extras, about two weeks out. Meanwhile local reporting describes the Vestal Parkway corridor as sold out on graduation weekend, and there are seven bookable properties in Binghamton.

You will be booking rooms before you know your ticket count. That is the honest position, and the practical response is to book refundable rooms for the number of people who want to come, then release what you do not need once March arrives. Cancelling a room you hold is easy. Finding one in Vestal in April is not.

Two details that soften it slightly. Children aged 3 and under on a lap need no ticket, though age 4 and above do and they count against the allotment. And every ceremony is live-streamed on Binghamton’s YouTube channel, which is a real answer for relatives who cannot be given a seat.

One warning Binghamton issues itself: tickets are free, and the only valid source is the university. Tickets bought anywhere else “will not scan at the door.”

The week collides with itself

Three things from Binghamton’s own academic calendar land on top of each other.

Final examinations run through Thursday 13 May, the first ceremony day. Senior Days run Thursday 13 and Friday 14 May. And residence halls close on Friday 14 May, in the middle of the ceremony span.

So on the Friday, Watson and Management families are arriving for ceremonies while the entire residential population is moving out. That is the same compounding shape local reporting described when it found hotels sold out and “off-campus student housing areas” packed. It is not a coincidence of one year; it is how the calendar is built.

International guests

Worth naming because it has a long lead time. Binghamton tells students that a family needing a visa can be sent a letter of invitation written by the student, and that the ISSS “Invitation to Graduation” form provides confirmation of commencement dates on university letterhead. If that applies to your family, the dates above are firm enough to start on now.

Absent rather than estimated

Not published at the time of writing: the 2027 ticket allotment itself, which Binghamton says arrives in March 2027; parking arrangements specific to commencement; and any bag or security policy for either venue. The 2028 span is on the calendar as Friday 12 to Sunday 14 May 2028, dates only.

There is no fall or December commencement at Binghamton. That is a checked negative rather than an omission: the academic calendar lists commencement ceremonies under Spring only, for both 2026-27 and 2027-28.

For where to sleep against those nine ceremonies, see where to stay. If you are looking at Binghamton this autumn, Homecoming runs 2 to 4 October and the university has published hotel blocks with deadlines that start expiring in August.

Frequently asked questions

Which day is my graduate's ceremony?

Thursday 13 May, School of Pharmacy at 9 a.m. and the Doctoral Hooding at 12:30 p.m., both at the Anderson Center, then Decker College at 4:30 p.m. at the Events Center. Friday 14 May, Watson College at 8:30 a.m., CCPA at 1 p.m. and the School of Management at 4:30 p.m. Saturday 15 May, the three Harpur College ceremonies at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Harpur graduates need to check which of the three numbered ceremonies they are in.

Is everything at the Events Center?

No, despite what you may have read. The first two ceremonies on Thursday, Pharmacy and the Doctoral Hooding, are at the Anderson Center Osterhout Theater. Everything else is at the Events Center. They are different buildings on the same campus, so it is a navigation problem rather than a travel one, but worth knowing on the morning.

How many guest tickets do we get?

Nobody knows yet, including Binghamton. The allotment "completely depends on the number of graduates who sign up for that ceremony and space available in the venue", and it will not be posted until March 2027. Graduates claim tickets in March 2027, and extra-ticket requests are answered by the end of April 2027, roughly two weeks before the ceremony.

Do children need tickets?

Children aged 3 and under who sit on a guardian's lap do not. Children aged 4 and above do, and they count against whatever allotment your graduate receives.

When do doors open and how long does it last?

Doors open 45 minutes before each ceremony, and Binghamton marks door times as subject to change. Each ceremony is approximately two hours. For the 8:30 a.m. ceremonies on Friday and Saturday that means being on campus by about 7:45 a.m.

What are Senior Days, and do they change our arrival?

Binghamton's academic calendar marks Thursday 13 and Friday 14 May as Senior Days, running alongside the ceremonies. Two other calendar items matter as much: final examinations run through Thursday 13 May, and residence halls close on Friday 14 May. So move-out overlaps the middle of the ceremony span, which is exactly the compounding pattern local reporting described.

Can guests who cannot travel watch?

Yes. Binghamton live-streams every ceremony on its YouTube channel, which is a genuine option given how tight the ticket allotment may turn out to be.
