The deadlines are the story

Most homecoming pages can only tell you a date. Binghamton has done something more useful and rarer: it has negotiated blocks at seven named hotels, published the rates, and attached hard expiry dates to each one.

In a market with seven bookable properties in the whole city, that is the most valuable thing on this cluster. Here it is, as Binghamton publishes it.

Two things worth reading off that table. The DoubleTree at $129 is the cheapest and it is downtown rather than on the Parkway. And the Tru by Hilton deadline of 19 August is the earliest by two weeks, so it is the one that disappears while people are still deciding.

Why 2026 is a heavier year

Binghamton turns 80, and the anniversaries stack up behind it: Pipe Dream at 80, WHRW at 60, the Multicultural Resource Center at 25, the College of Community and Public Affairs at 20, and the Q Center at 10.

Anniversary years pull back cohorts who do not come every year, and five of them at once pulls back five different networks. Each has its own event on the schedule, which means each has its own reason to book a room.

The headline draw is Paul Reiser, the comedian, actor and writer, who is a Binghamton alumnus. An Evening of Standup and Stories runs 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Saturday 3 October at the Anderson Center, ticketed separately through the box office.

Saturday is fourteen hours long

This is why two nights is the honest recommendation rather than an upsell.

Saturday 3 October, as published:

• 7:45 a.m. Wenzel Memorial 5K check-in opens, closing at 8:45. Race at 9 a.m.
• 9 to 11 a.m. Decker College homecoming brunch, in Johnson City
• 10 a.m. 29th Athletics Hall of Fame induction and breakfast at the Events Center; campus tour; nature preserve tour
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Multicultural Resource Center 25th anniversary, Bartle Library Plaza Deck
• 1:30 to 3 p.m. Pipe Dream and WHRW alumni panel
• 2 p.m. Volleyball against Bryant, West Gym
• 3 to 6 p.m. Fall Festival on the Peace Quad, with the Pipe Dream 80th tent
• 6 to 9 p.m. WHRW 60th anniversary awards banquet
• 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Paul Reiser, Anderson Center
• 9:30 p.m. Fireworks

Fireworks at half past nine, and Sunday morning still has the Pipe Dream farewell breakfast, Newman House Mass and Chabad services. Nobody drives to Ithaca after that.

Friday carries its own weight too: check-in at the Alumni Center from 3 p.m., the Q Center and CCPA anniversary receptions at 5, the Binghamton Block Party on Washington Street downtown from 7 to 10 p.m., and the Black Student Union’s 58th fashion show at 8.

The parking policy is a hint

A small thing that says more than it looks like.

Binghamton gives free parking across campus in any non-metered, non-reserved space from 4 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Monday. Garage gates open at 4 p.m. Friday and stay open all day Saturday. Overnight parking is allowed in designated 24/7 lots.

A university that opens its car parks until 7 a.m. Monday and permits overnight parking is a university that knows its visitors are staying two nights. Plan accordingly.

Register by 27 September

Most homecoming events are free, but most also require registration, and the deadline for nearly all of them is Sunday 27 September.

The ones that cost money: the Binghamton Block Party at $15, the WHRW happy hour and the CCPA 20th cocktail party at $20 each, the Decker brunch at $15, the Athletics Hall of Fame breakfast at $40 for adults and $15 for under-15s, and the Wenzel 5K at $10 for students and $20 for everyone else, exact change only on the day. The 5K also has an earlier deadline if you want a shirt: register online by noon on Monday 14 September.

Rec Center access for alumni and family aged 18 and over is free but needs pre-registration by 27 September.

If September suits better

Family Weekend is Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September 2026, registration already open, with 80 plus activities and keynote speakers Belle Liang and Timothy Klein. It is aimed at the families of current students rather than alumni, and Binghamton says its event calendar is published only two weeks beforehand.

There are no published hotel blocks for it. What Binghamton does say on that page is worth repeating here: “You’ll want to book your hotel reservations as soon as possible, they fill up fast!”

What is not established

Ticket prices for the Paul Reiser show were not recorded here, since the Anderson Center box office sets them and they change. No road closure list has been published for the downtown block party. Rates in the table are the university’s published block rates rather than live market rates, and they apply only until each deadline; after that the ladder above is the live check.

The block deadlines are quoted with their dates so that this page ages into a record rather than into bad advice. If you are reading after 11 September 2026, treat all of them as closed.
