Clark Atlanta's Commencement Exercises are SUNDAY 16 MAY 2027, published in CAU own 2026-2027 academic calendar alongside "Saturday, May 15, 2027 Baccalaureate Services". This CORRECTS an earlier date on this page: the cluster previously showed Monday 17 May, inferred from CAU Monday ceremony in 2026. CAU has moved to a Sunday for 2027, which is exactly why an inference is not good enough. The venue is the open question rather than the date. CAU 2026 Commencement Exercises were held at the GEORGIA WORLD CONGRESS CENTER, Building A, in DOWNTOWN Atlanta, about three kilometres from the AUC campus, and no 2027 venue is published. In that cycle graduate arrival was 6:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. ceremony. Spelman and Morehouse also graduate on Sunday 16 May.

Sunday 16 May 2027, and a correction
Clark Atlanta’s Commencement Exercises are Sunday 16 May 2027, with Baccalaureate Services on Saturday 15 May. Both come from CAU’s own 2026-2027 academic calendar.
This page previously showed Monday 17 May, inferred from CAU’s Monday ceremony in the 2026 cycle. That inference was reasonable and it was wrong: CAU has moved to a Sunday for 2027.
It is a useful illustration of why a pattern is not a source. The reasoning was sound, the institution simply changed its mind, and only the published calendar records that.
All three AUC colleges graduate the same day
This is the fact that decides lodging here, and it only became visible once each college calendar was read on its own.
| When | College |
|---|---|
| Saturday 15 May 2027 | Baccalaureate at Spelman, Morehouse and Clark Atlanta |
| Sunday 16 May 2027 | Commencement at all three |
Spelman, Morehouse and Clark Atlanta sit within about 400 metres of each other, and all three hold their 2027 commencement on Sunday 16 May, each confirmed on that college own academic calendar.
So the Atlanta University Center is not a staggered three-day event. It is one day, three colleges, one small market. Book for that Sunday and the nights around it, and book early: you are competing with two other graduating classes, not just your own.
The venue is the open question, not the date
CAU’s 2026 Commencement Exercises were held at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building A, in downtown Atlanta, roughly three kilometres from the AUC campus.
CAU has published no 2027 venue. If the downtown arrangement repeats, your lodging decision differs from Spelman and Morehouse families despite the three campuses being 400 metres apart, because the ceremony itself is across town.
That is the first thing to confirm when CAU publishes its 2027 details.
A 6:30 a.m. arrival for a 10:00 a.m. ceremony
In the 2026 pattern, graduate arrival was 6:30 a.m. for a ceremony beginning at 10:00 a.m.
For a downtown venue that means two separate journeys at very different times: the graduate leaves long before the guests need to. Worth knowing when you are planning the morning.
What we checked
CAU’s academic calendar and commencement page were both read on 19 August 2026. The 2027 dates come from the calendar; the downtown venue, the arrival time and the week of hooding ceremonies come from the commencement page, which is on the 2026 cycle. Spelman and Morehouse dates come from their own calendars.
Not published for 2027: the venue, times, and any ticket or guest limit.

Frequently asked questions
When is Clark Atlanta's 2027 Commencement?
Sunday 16 May 2027, with Baccalaureate Services on Saturday 15 May. Both come from CAU's own 2026-2027 academic calendar, and the weekdays were verified independently.
Didn't this page say Monday before?
It did, and that was wrong. The earlier date was inferred from CAU's Monday ceremony in the 2026 cycle. CAU's published calendar puts the 2027 ceremony on the Sunday, so the inference was reasonable and still incorrect, which is why this site now uses only published dates.
Where is it held?
Not published for 2027, and this is the open question. CAU's 2026 Commencement Exercises were at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building A, in downtown Atlanta, roughly three kilometres from the AUC campus rather than on it. If that repeats, your lodging decision differs from Spelman and Morehouse families despite the campuses being adjacent.
What time does a graduate need to arrive?
In the 2026 pattern, 6:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. ceremony, a three-and-a-half hour gap. For a downtown venue that means the graduate and the guests make two separate journeys at very different times.
Do the other AUC colleges graduate the same day?
Yes. Spelman and Morehouse both hold their 2027 commencement on Sunday 16 May, each confirmed on their own calendar.
