Spelman's Commencement Services are SUNDAY 16 MAY 2027, published on Spelman's own academic calendar, which lists "15 | Baccalaureate Services" and "16 | Commencement Services" under May in its Spring 2027 block. So this is a confirmed date rather than an inference from a previous year. Baccalaureate Services fall on Saturday 15 May, the day before, which the cluster previously did not carry at all. The fact that shapes lodging is not Spelman alone: MOREHOUSE AND CLARK ATLANTA BOTH HOLD THEIR 2027 COMMENCEMENT ON THE SAME SUNDAY, each confirmed on their own calendars, and all three campuses sit within about 400 metres of each other. Spelman has not published a 2027 venue or start time.

Sunday 16 May 2027, confirmed
Spelman’s Commencement Services are Sunday 16 May 2027, with Baccalaureate Services on Saturday 15 May.
Both come from Spelman’s own academic calendar, whose Spring 2027 block lists them under May as “15 | Baccalaureate Services” and “16 | Commencement Services”. The weekdays check out.
Worth noting where that lives, because the obvious place does not have it: Spelman’s commencement page is still on the 2026 cycle and carries no 2027 date. The academic calendar does.
All three AUC colleges graduate the same day
This is the fact that decides lodging here, and it only became visible once each college calendar was read on its own.
| When | College |
|---|---|
| Saturday 15 May 2027 | Baccalaureate at Spelman, Morehouse and Clark Atlanta |
| Sunday 16 May 2027 | Commencement at all three |
Spelman, Morehouse and Clark Atlanta sit within about 400 metres of each other, and all three hold their 2027 commencement on Sunday 16 May, each confirmed on that college own academic calendar.
So the Atlanta University Center is not a staggered three-day event. It is one day, three colleges, one small market. Book for that Sunday and the nights around it, and book early: you are competing with two other graduating classes, not just your own.
What Spelman has not published
The date is settled. The venue and the start time are not: Spelman has posted neither for 2027, and no ticket or guest limit either.
What we checked
Spelman’s academic calendar and commencement page were both read on 19 August 2026. The dates come from the calendar; the commencement page is on the 2026 cycle. Morehouse and Clark Atlanta dates come from their own calendars, read the same day, and the weekdays were verified independently.

Sunday 16 May 2027, with Baccalaureate Services on Saturday 15 May. Both come from Spelman's own academic calendar for Spring 2027, and the weekdays were verified independently.
Do the other AUC colleges graduate the same day?
Yes, all three. Morehouse and Clark Atlanta both hold their 2027 commencement on Sunday 16 May, each confirmed on their own academic calendar. Three colleges within 400 metres graduating on one day is the defining fact for this market.
Where is Spelman's ceremony held?
Not published for 2027. Spelman has posted the date on its academic calendar but no venue or start time.
